Lamps and a space monkey

Check out this Bookrest lamp by Suck UK at Emmohome.

Also I like these block lamps by Harri Koskinen for DHS at unicahome, especially the one with the red cord.

OK, I am not one of those adults who has stuffed animal toys in their house, because they have not grown out of their Disney years. Stuffed animals and I parted ways even before I got out of childhood. Even during childhood I would prefer make-believe toys, like making puppets out of a nail clipper than the stuffed toy or the big doll sitting in the room. Anyhoo, my point being I am NOT someone you would think would have any toys in the house at this age. That said, anyone reading my blog long enough would realize that I like humour in my home decor; just not downright 6-year old stuffed teddy bears, which are not funny, but just childish.

After all that explanation above, let me get to the point. I got myself this giant Space Monkey by Dalek on ebay, because I really love this 9" colorful, grinny, knife-wielding thing sitting on my shelf next to other decor items. It gives a pop of color and humour with the knife and everything, and it is not so much regarded as a toy, as it is more bought to be put on a shelf and not necessarily be played by 6 year olds, although of course if you have kids, sure, it can be an instant toy, as long as you make sure your kid doesn't swallow the knife or the extra third eye at the back.

Another reason I bought is because when it loses its humour in my future retirement-chic home 25 years from now, I can sell it, and because it is a collector's item which was made in limited numbers (500 to be exact) and it is by a world-renowned artist, it will only gain value in time. So when it is time to say goodbye to it, you can take it to ebay and make enough money to buy a fancy cane for those brittle bones.

Daily decor finds

I am so giddy over these new finds.

Check out these wonderful and colorful drawers, tables and chairs by Seletti.

And this bookcase by Seletti is particularly creative.
These white porcelain bowl and vases look instantly interesting with that pop of color on them.
This whimsical lamp by Mathieu Challières is lovely. In the description on The Conran Shop's page, it says it has "faux" birds. Faux...No kidding.

These balloon dogs are terribly cute (and of course, it is no balloon. It is the resin bookend version of artist Jeff Koons' "balloon dog" sculpture. It would work as a great decor piece on any shelf).

These faceted geo planters at Sprout Home  break the mold of generic terracotta pots.

These apothecary jars would go with any style. You can check them out at Heliotropehome.
And this one with robin egg soaps by Gianna Rose Atelier are great decor for the bathroom (I think I may buy this)....By the way, if you like my blog, please follow me by clicking on the "follow me" button on the top right hand side. I appreciate your  interest immensely.

Orla Kiely goodness

Today I want to talk a little bit about about Irish designer Orla Kiely. Her retro patterns are so yummy to me that I could not resist having  pieces of it myself. In the past years I have bought Orla Kiely handbags, wallet, mugs, plates, rain boots, which are my favourite to this day. I can't say I like all her patterns, but the ones I like I really LOOOVE, like the stem ones that these jars and bags have.

I own this bag below, which I got at an ideeli sale, and it cost me less than $50, which was a good deal, considering its regular price.

I also have these rainboots, which are my favourite rain boots of all time, because they are thick enough that when I wear them in knee-high snow, it keeps my feet warm and dry, unlike thin, flimsy rainboots out there. And the green tone is not loud, but is cozy and cute. I got them two years ago at a super sale on bluefly ; there was sale on already reduced items.

This is a picture of my coat rack from my entryway, (picture quality is not good, because I had really low lighting and not the best camera) where you can spot one of my Orla Kiely bags, which I got on ebay 3 years ago and have used a lot since then.  Her handbags are also very durable, and will look as cute in ten years as they do now.

OK, this is the fourth time that I am posting a radio here (as I said before, it is a curious thing because I don't really listen to radio, but can not stop myself from admiring some of the lovable designs out there).

I also would love to buy Orla kiely wallpaper in this pattern below. Right now I don't have any immediate need for wallpaper, but if I move and have the need for a wallpaper, this will be it, which is why I am on the lookout for it to go on sale, because as soon as I find it at a reduced price, I will stock it for that rainy, wallpaper day.

Speaking of wallpapers, I like the picture below of a staircase that is covered with Orla Kiely wallpapers. I don't know who this picture belongs to, so I can not give full credit, but kudos to whoever did this. A nice way to use wallpapers.
And of course Orla Kiely also produces her patterns in fabric, which means absolutely cute chairs like this which you want to hug. PS: I know I said "cute" a lot in this post, but if "cute" perfectly describes these items, why bother with another word.
By the way, I am editing this post with good news.

Home Decorators Collection

Normally I would not have anything to buy from a site like homedecorators, because it is mainly traditional decor, which I don't much care for. But they also have non-traditional little gems here and there, such as some industrial pieces, and the prices are affordable. So, definitely worth checking out.

Here are a few I like from that site:

And I actually own a cabinet that I got on this site that is in the same Asian style as the media stands below. I don't think they carry that cabinet anymore, so I can't pull a picture of the cabinet from their site.

I like the print and colors on this chair.

OK, this chest and small cabinet are technically traditional, but I like the bird drawings and the antiquey look so much that I would absolutely consider buying them.

This and that decor

Here are a couple of bone photo frames that I like from Wisteria:

And here is a cool sofa, that may be technically a traditional sofa with the lace trimmings and all, but I would use it with modern decor. Love the print on the fabric they used.
I think this is the third time I am posting a radio. The thing is I don't even listen to radio, but I love the looks of these interesting looking retro-ish radios. You can find then at Areaware.

And check out this pouf at Viva Terra.

I also love this wood stool and this rustic table, both from VivaTerra.
